- #2Check out the android.modaco forum for the real expert opinions but the simplest way is to pair it with a mobile and use the phone's internet connection that way.

I've used the E160g Dongle with the r8 firmware mod. But it is temperamental.
Personally I would use it with wifi. - #5I think some dongles work, if you flash it first with the custom rom, my ZTE Corporation MF627 didn't though:( But got a Mifi thingy & it connects to that no problem which is ideal for when I'm away from home & places with free wifi as I can just connect to my mifi:D
- #6I have 1 out of the 4 broadband dongles I own that works with no mods, this is the Vodafone non-expiry Huawei K3565.
It still requires you to do the “Bakebean” method to work but does not require you to change the auto start for software that most dongles have built into their software.
You will find a lot of reading on this subject here.

Trying to find the details for bakebean but the MoDoCo servers seems to have gone down. Will try later. - #7I have 1 out of the 4 broadband dongles I own that works with no mods, this is the Vodafone non-expiry Huawei K3565.

This is the bakebean method.
Details:
1. Installed theMoDaCo Custom ROM for the Advent Vega r7
2. Enabled USB Host Mode (USB Mode --> USB Host (required reboot)
3. Inserted the Huawei E220 USB Dongle (mine was a t-mobile PAYG dongle)
4. If USB Host Mode is enabled, the dongle will flash green, then blue
*Interesting bit*:
5a. Go to Settings --> Accounts & Sync --> Add Account
5b. Select 'Google'
5b. Hold down the back button (the physical button) for 2-5 seconds until a 'Wireless Settings' icon appears at the bottom of the screen
5c. Select 'Wireless Settings'
5d. Select '3G Service enabled'
5e. Select 'Data enabled'
5f. Select 'Network Operators' .. You may need to wait 10-30 seconds as the Vega configures itself to read the USB dongle, makes a connection and identifies what providers are available.. the light on my USB Dongle went solid blue at this point (if I recall correctly)
5g. Choose your network operator
5h. The Vega notification bar will change to show a '3G' icon, which is animated to show upload/download action; and a signal strenth icon.
6. Ensure WiFi is off and surf to a website.. In my case, I got the t-mobile top-up page, which showed me my dongle's phone number and the fact that I had no further credit on my account. - #8This is the bakebean method.
Yep, that's the one.
Can you get into Modoco in this moment in time, it went down about 10 minutes ago and I now get network problem page, no problems anywhere else? - #9Yep, that's the one.

It's Modaco btw.

Working for me. - #10It's Modaco btw.

Working for me.
Sorry about the mis-spelling, it’s just I like O’s,:D Modaco now working for me too.
With the bakebean method I have found that the stage 5d and 5e work the opposite on my Vega + K3565 dongle i.e. if there ticked it does not work.
I don’t use this method myself very often, only if I forget to pack my travel router when away from home which is why I have not tried to hard to get my 3, o2 and T-Mobile dongles working.
The Vodafone K3565 dongle just works with no problems at all so I wonder what is different from this one and others.
I have tried using APN Manager with the Vega but still no go. - #11I got a Mifi thingy & it connects to that no problem which is ideal for when I'm away from home & places with free wifi as I can just connect to my mifi:D
Did your mifi 3g dongle work on your Advent tablet without any problems. As i'm curious as i want to get a tablet. - #12Did your mifi 3g dongle work on your Advent tablet without any problems. As i'm curious as i want to get a tablet.
Not at first which was puzzling me as everything else I connected with it worked without no problems, laptop/netbook/ipod touch/my friends ipad/my mobile phone but then I realised I'd frst typed in the password wrong & it kept remembering my 'wrong' password & so kept failing to connect, ever since I've sorted that out I've had no problems:D.
The only problems I have with the mifi is if using it when on a bus & I lose the connection when the bus travels through certain areas. - #13cheers matey for reply . Cannot be bothered with any faffing around with dongles when i get my tablet. so just looking at getting a new 3 network 3G MiFi thingy and want it working straight out off the box.I don't have fixed line broadband so rely on the 3G dongles for connection.
